Sony Xperia MWC

Jack Morton approached us with a last minute experiential project for Sony that had hit a technological brick wall. Our reputation for delivering animation for the London 2012 audience pixels had convinced them we could help them out.

We had less than two weeks to provide content for a screen formed from a grid of the new Xperia ZL smartphones. 196 of them to be precise, meaning an epic resolution of 11,631 x 21,678 pixels!

After a lot of hair-tearing, desk-banging and crashing macs we managed to cajole our render farm into producing frames that size. It was an extreme exercise in balancing creativity against render times within the incredibly tight deadline all whilst operating well beyond the limits of a normal production pipeline.

The Sony Xperia stand at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona was a huge hit and we later found out that the screen was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest animated mobile phone mosaic. The wall was featured by the world's media networks and had a full feature in the conference magazine.
